Krugman says to support the healthcare bill because it’s better than nothing.

I was talking with a nurse last night and from the her perspective nothing short of single payer makes any sense. The entire health insurance industry is just one big layer of inefficiency driving up the cost of health care.

Single payer should have been the original bill. Maybe then the compromise we’re looking at today would look more like the original proposals that have been watered down by overpaid lobbyists shilling for overpaid healthcare insurance executives.

And fuck Evan Bayh.

Nothing from the WaPost this morning as they’re just whining on Obama, especially his “war on Fox.” But a funny thing: I’m seeing more and more op-eds in other newspapers about how Fox sucks in that very special Fox way.

Just for fun, Dave Neiwert on Bill O’Reilly.

Now, if we can just restrain Obama to keep him from announcing Mission Accomplished from the deck of an aircraft carrier….

SecState Clinton says a deal is in place to return Manuel Zelaya to office in Honduras.

A deal that I’m betting will not hold the coupsters accountable, or provide anything like real justice.

A just resolution would imprison the coup leaders, punish their followers, and would result in U.S. Republican leaders being charged with violating U.S. laws against conducting your own foreign policy negotiations on foreign soil.

No one can exploit a dead child like a faux populist fronting for industrialists. We’re half a decade shy of the centennial of Leo Frank’s lynching in Georgia and the case is still newsworthy.

In the Times, Judith Warner reviews a new book on the homeless children of the Depression, and updates it with stories of today’s homeless kids who’re going it alone.

History does speak to us when we’re not so full of ideology we can’t be bothered to listen.

I don’t know squat about cap and trade and I really don’t care to learn more. So long as we do not fully embrace the science of global warming, all responses will be short-sighted and insufficient.

But it’s scary to see how easily mobilized farmers are by the lying liars who run their organizations and lobbying groups. Good story at McClatchy on how farmers are ripping on their elected officials to fight the fight against global warming.

And in keeping with the season, some very scary climate change maps showing Death Valley temps covering most of Texas by 2080.

While in California a US District judge is expressing concern that Orly Taitz may be guilty of suborning perjury. If so, I don’t think a fine will cover the damages.

Sarah Palin lashes back at Levi Johnston. Never mind about what, it’s just fun to see her being herself, if only for a moment.

Had to close my bedroom window just now. The apartment reeks of wood smoke from some asshole who saw a dark and rainy morning and just had to build a fire.

It could have been worse, I guess. They could have been burning coal.
