Drowning in links, but I can’t decide what makes me maddest today.
I think I’ll let Mick kick things off:
I don’t want to seem too much like a broken record, going over and over the same grooves and playing the same song until My Funny Valentine sounds like Little Lambsy-Divey but I do think we need to understand, deeply and completely, what’s happened to our economy and our society over 30 years of uninterrupted conservative rule (yes, I include Clinton for his NAFTA pimping and other pro-business “Third Way” agenda). Knowing what mistakes were made and by whom and why they were allowed by people who should have known better is the only way to know what needs to be done so it won’t happen again.
Don’t let the soaring market fool you
Franken on employment discrimination (at every turn Franken has made me happy he was elected, unlike our senior wrong-finger-in-the-wind Senator)
Meanwhile, an average of sixteen workers die each day because OSHA’s been gutted and the feds don’t work nearly hard enough to protect working men and women from the predators in the front office
The part of America that’s totally socialized
And a list that starts with a union guy, should end with a union guy.

MSNBC says Obama has rejected ALL the options presented to him on Afghanistan.
More from John Cole.
I need to see how healthcare comes out, and whether or not Obama resists the urge to escalate in Afghanistan. Then maybe I’ll be on the same page as Rob Levine (whom I’m hoping to see at Wegestock).

A Hmong-American is honored by his President:
Private First Class Kham Xiong came to America from Thailand as a small child. He was a husband and father who followed his brother into the military because his family had a strong history of service. He was preparing for his first deployment to Afghanistan.
These men and women came from all parts of the country. Some had long careers in the military. Some had signed up to serve in the shadow of 9/11. Some had known intense combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, and some cared for those did. Their lives speak to the strength, the dignity, the decency of those who serve, and that’s how they will be remembered.
For that same spirit is embodied in the community here at Fort Hood, and in the many wounded who are still recovering. As was already mentioned, in those terrible minutes during the attack, soldiers made makeshift tourniquets out of their clothes. They braved gunfire to reach the wounded, and ferried them to safety in the backs of cars and a pickup truck.

Shit I don’t get:
* Jonathan Schwarz ripping on Peter Galbraith for helping to broker an oil deal between the Kurds and a Norwegian oil company. 1) Is Schwarz claiming that Galbraith once said Iraq isn’t about the oil? Because I have no such recollection. 2) Did Kucinich point a finger at Galbraith? 3) What does Richard Cohen being a total fucking douchebag have to do with Peter Galbraith?
Securing oil revenue for the Kurds is a necessary first step in creating a free and independent Kurdistan. Once you remove a lot of the oil from the equation, getting Iraq to settle down will be a lot easier.
* Why Hunter let the Class of ’06 (Klob-o-crats) off the hook by starting his chart with 2003 numbers.
* Why record numbers of Americans are still rotting in prison cells over marijuana charges.
* How The Swamp can, with a straight face, run Sean Hannity’s “oh gee we fucked up” admission without acknowledging WHY Fox had every conceivable incentive to fuck up on purpose.
* How the Netroots can agitate for people to donate money to get rid of Blanche Lincoln when there are NO FUCKING ARKANSANS RUNNING AGAINST HER!!!
* Why the media never takes note of how Andrew Breitbart shits on a piece of cardboard, pokes around in it, and then publishes his findings as fact.
* Why the media ignores J Street.

George Will wakes up to the consequences of eight years of Bush-Cheneyism, but can’t seem to remember either of their names when it comes to blaming anyone for the mess we’re in.

You never used to see people reading porno mags on buses. Whatever Monica Hesse thinks is happening isn’t happening because of the Internet. This has nothing to do with porn and everything to do with how corporate culture has poisoned our ability to live civilly with one another.
Not that a clusterfucked religion can’t achieve the same level of intolerance.

From Techno, what makes Finnish kids so smart?
After reading the article, I’d say it’s because their parents aren’t religious douchebags married to anally poisoned establishmentarians, and that the entire country has a culture that is conducive to learning.
